Official Background Checks in North Carolina

North Carolina does not offer an unrestricted public SBI name-check portal. The state repository is the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Information and Identification Section. A person may order their own fingerprint-based Right to Review for $14. It reports North Carolina arrests supported by fingerprints and associated dispositions when available. It does not add federal or other-state history.

Union County Right to Review Records

Right to Review is for your own record. Start by obtaining a full set of ten clear fingerprints from local law enforcement. NCSBI stopped supplying blank FD-258 cards, so confirm the card, appointment, local fingerprint fee, and payment rules with the Sheriff's Office before travel. Mail the signed form, completed card, and a $14 certified check or money order to the NCSBI Applicant Unit. Cash, credit cards, personal checks, and incomplete cards are not accepted for this mail process.

The result may show an arrest cycle without a matched disposition. In that case, compare it with the Union County Clerk's case file. After obtaining the review, a requester may use the NCSBI written-exception process to dispute an entry and should include the court proof that supports the correction.

A warrant is another distinct record. UCSO's Most Wanted notices are selective and are not a full warrant clearance. Court entries and calls to the Sheriff's Office or Clerk provide safer verification and resolution routes.

Union County Criminal Record Custodians

Two Monroe locations hold very different parts of a Union County record. The Judicial Center at 400 North Main Street holds District and Superior Court files through the Clerk. The Presson Road complex holds the Sheriff's main operation, Detention Center, and Magistrates Office. County Government's general public-record portal does not hold criminal, civil, or traffic court documents and sends those requests to the Clerk.

Union County Criminal Records: What They Contain

The fields depend on the record. A court summary can show parties, case number, filing date, charge level, events, hearing details, public documents, judgment, and financial amounts. A sheriff booking row focuses on name, demographic shorthand, primary charge, arrest date, booking agency, and a details link. An SBI history ties identifiers to fingerprints, arrest cycles, and dispositions when available.

No result is not proof that no record exists. A narrow date filter, spelling variation, another police custodian, release from the current jail roster, a lag before filing, restricted data, or expunction can all remove an expected match from one screen.

Union County Jail and Warrant Records

UCSO Inmate Inquiry lists current county custody. Its result row includes a name, primary charge, arrest date, booking agency, demographic shorthand, and a details control. It is not a list of all past Union County arrests. A person can vanish from the roster after release or transfer while the court case remains active. North Carolina Public Access Laws

North Carolina calls its main record-clearing remedy expunction. Eligibility depends on the charge, result, offense class, age at the event, prior record, and date. City-by-City Criminal Records in Union County

City records follow the agency that created them. Indian Trail has no municipal police department and uses a contracted UCSO bureau, so its law-enforcement records remain sheriff records. Monroe and Waxhaw operate their own police departments and keep their own incident and arrest reports. None of the three has a municipal criminal court. Their charges move through Union County District Court, with felony trials in Superior Court, and county booking is centralized through UCSO.
